Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

TENDOO was within a couple of lengths of the exciting Grangeclare Park when falling at the penultimate fence in Curraghmore on his debut back in April, and that initial promise is worth noting here. Of the others in this with previous experience, LAmalric has failed to complete in three starts, but has shown encouraging signs, whilst his stablemate, Barbar Esko, was not beaten too far at Umma House in October.

WALK THE HALL had just made her move to the front of the field when coming down three-out in Kildorrery on debut, and despite being sent off as the favourite for her next two races, she remains a maiden. She can put that right here. Leading Rose has been in good form this season, and looks the big threat, as after going close at Tinahely last month, she was again in the shake-up for a placed finish at Rathcannon when coming down at the final fence. Godblessyourosie could be next best after her Umma House second.

WEST OF IDAHO has come a cropper in the closing stages of both outings this season, but if putting in a clean round of jumping, he would be deserving of getting his head in front. Mackieshill bounced back to form in a small field race at Knockmullen House last Sunday, and would be the big danger following that, whilst Irish Champ is a newcomer that hails from respected connections.

FORTUNE LAD put up a really nice performance on his stable debut at Portrush last month, as this winner of a big-field maiden at Loughbrickland, ran his more proven stablemate, My Life Be Like, to within a length in a performance which would suggest he is well up to winning this. Western Wishes made a good return to action at Loughanmore, whilst of the others, Colvin and Largy Star both beat subsequent maiden winners when opening their accounts, and Spill A Drop is another last-time-out maiden winner who could step forward.

Winged Leader has only won once from his four previous visits here, so it may be worth siding with his new stablemate JOURNEY WITH ME. A Grade 2 winner last year, he is still rated 152 and is a high-class addition to this division. Carnfunnock made a winning return to action at Curraghmore, having finished sixth at the Cheltenham Foxhunters last season, whilst Folly Master is still progressing and has age on his side.

It could be worth giving UNFORTUNATECHARLIE a second chance here as he was sent off as the well-supported favourite when disappointing at Toomebridge in May. Prior to that, he had gone close at Lisronagh on his debut. Vicomte Le Brave also has second-placed finishes to his name, including on this card 12 months ago, whilst Minella Cristal finished placed at Necarne in the spring.
