Track Biography:

The Golden Vale hunt was revived by Tim Hyde and Michael Purcell.

The hounds were hunted by John Pickering, James Foley, Capt. Donald Swan, Rory Dicken, Tom O’Meara, Jim Quinlan and presently by Michael Comerford.

The point-to-point has been run annually at various venues. The first meeting was held at College Hill Templemore and has since been run at Thurles racecourse, Fairyhill Templemore, Coolkip Horse and Jockey, Glenbane Holycross and now at its current venue of Turtulla Thurles.

How To Get There

By Road

All roads will be signposted from both Horse and Jockey and Thurles.
On the N62 to Turtulla cross, turn left 1 mile from Thurles town. Then turn right at the Golf Course.

By Air

Our point-to-point is located two hours and fifteen minutes from Dublin airport.

We also provide a disability parking area with fence viewing on the home straight.

There is portaloo’s available on the day. 

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both England and Ireland.
 

We have a marque serving home-made soups, sandwiches and cakes with all of the proceeds going towards Autism Ireland.

There will outside caterers on site also for those wanting some burger and chips!

Race goers can purchase teas, coffees and soft drinks from our catering marquee.

Refreshments will also be available from on site caterers.

There is a wide variety of beverages on offer, something to suit everyone!

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to wear warm coats, caps and good footwear.
Dogs are very welcome, but need to be kept on a lead at all times.
Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics or refreshments.
At our point-to-point, we are lucky to have wide open spaces for children to play in a safe environment.
No we do not provide an ATM so we recommend that you make a stop in the nearby town of Thurles on your way to the races.

The Golden Vale point-to-point is the perfect day out for the family in the countryside and as an added bonus for parents all children U16’s have free admission.

Race goers have the opportunity to get a close up of the action when the runners are being saddled and paraded in the parade ring before their race. The fence in our home straight allows you to get a perfect viewing point of each race whether you are on foot or in the comfort of your car.

With Thurles town only a five minute drive from the track, there is a large selection of shops and restaurants to keep you busy within the area. Thurles is also steeped in GAA history as it is the birthplace of the Gaelic Athletic Association founded in 1884 by Hayes’ Hotel. Thurles is also home to Semple Stadium which is the second largest GAA stadium in Ireland with a capacity of 53,500.
