Track Biography:

The Galway Blazers have a long history of holding a point-to-point dating back over a hundred years. The hunt dates from the beginning of the 19th century and has established itself as one of the famous Irish Hunts due to the goodwill and generosity of farmers and landowners throughout the county.

We run two meetings a year at Dartfield just outside Loughrea with the first one taking place in October and the second fixture being held in April. The course is situated at Dartfield Horse Museum and heritage centre which is set on 350 acres of parkland just forty minutes from Galway city.

Over the years, Loughrea point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as Bewleys Berry, Boys Hurrah, Brindisi Breeze, Never Compromise and King Johns Castle.

Fresh from saddling the winners of both four-year-old maiden races at Toomebridge last Saturday, Colin Bowe will likely supply the favourite for this race as he is responsible for the bulk of the entries for this which includes both Illico Du Breuil and Ihandaya who both offered promise last year. The Bowe team also have the interesting newcomer Zefiro Dodville who cost his connections E80,000 at the store sales last year and is certainly worth a paddock inspection pre-race if appearing here, whilst Willitgoahead has placed form to his name from last season.

SHANTOU MOON was in the process of posting a much improved performance at Castletown-Geoghegan last Sunday and certainly seems to have benefitted from the summer break. This looks a very open race which could offer him the opportunity to gain quick compensation. Jet Patrol was an early faller at Lingstown on his debut when sent off as the favourite for a big-field contest which entitles him to respect, whilst Willywampus is a new recruit to this sphere and is rated 98 over hurdles.

KALNOO was first past the post at Toomebridge last Saturday only to loose the race after taking the wrong course. The previously track-placed mare would be worthy of compensation here. Desert Heather and You No Me Too Well have both changed stables since last being seen in pointing action. They have long been knocking of the door, whilst Chatshow Host, Call The Barmaid and Finding Fame are others that cannot be discounted.

POSEIDON won a Grade B Handicap Chase at Cork just under a year ago when with Charles Byrnes and although he has been doing all of his winning over much shorter trips, if the ground remains on the nice side, this should not be a track where is stamina doubts over three miles should be too much of a concern. Whatswrongwithyou is an interesting returnee to his former connections, whilst Robin De Roost, who won back-to-back opens last year before winning in handicap company at Downpatrick is one that could get involved despite a lengthy lay-off.

KYLER KANE was catching the eye at Castletown-Geoghegan last Sunday before exiting four-out, and he could gain quick compensation here at the expense of Le Mieux who also came acropper at the Westmeath venue. Three Nations has switched stables since he was a shade disappointing at Lingstown in December and may be the biggest threat on his first outing for Declan Queally.

HADDOCK DE GRISSAY justified market support to win well at Toomebridge last Saturday and connections could have found a very nice opportunity for him to swiftly double up as he seems to be improving of late. Lights Are Green was also among the winners last weekend when taking a big step forward to win a similar contest in Castletown-Geoghegan, whilst Ballingarry winner The Secret One must overcome a three absence.
